As the Women in Ministry (WIM) of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, we pause today to remember the one who spoke up and responded to God’s call on her life into ministry. Despite the many nos she received and the doors closed before her, the Rev. Jarena Lee (February 11, 1783 – February 3, 1864) preached the saving Gospel of Jesus Christ.
The African Methodist Episcopal Church (AME) posthumously ordained Jarena Lee as an Itinerant Elder in 2016. She was the first Black woman preacher in the United States. …...more
